the apothecary: augmented reality experience

Creative Design, Illustration, UX Design, Adobe Aero

I created an immersive augmented reality (AR) experience centered around a playful potion shop, where users could interact with potions labeled as cures for common "ailments" like heartbreak, hangovers, and anxiety. Each potion revealed a fun, fictional recipe, offering a lighthearted take on how we cope with these challenges.

The experience was developed in Adobe Aero, with elements drawn in Procreate and imported as interactive assets. Each asset was enhanced with custom animations and programmed actions to bring the AR scene to life. To elevate the immersion, I incorporated sound effects and carefully timed the pacing of various elements, ensuring a dynamic and engaging user experience.

SKETCHES & user flow

I placed a strong emphasis on the user experience, carefully designing the AR experience to be visually captivating with graphics and sound effects. My goal was to balance aesthetics with engaging content, keeping the viewer immersed throughout. For each recipe, I brainstormed ideas to ensure they were funny, relatable, and engaging for the targeted audience—college students.

sticker design & placement

To activate the AR, I designed a sticker featuring a potion bottle, using a bold purple and green color palette to grab attention and evoke the traditional "potion" aesthetic, enhancing the visual appeal and intrigue for users.

Like many others, I consider The Mill @ Innovation Campus a second home. I chose this location for my sticker due to its high foot traffic and the idea that a coffee shop serves as a modern-day apothecary, offering its own kind of remedies. Users have the ability to scan the QR code placed on the sticker and enter the AR experience!
